My production has kind of been on a hiatus.
Unfortunately, I have picked up a second job and that has been eating up a lot of my time. Too much. More than I would like to devote to little pieces of green paper.
It is hard trying to balance everything but I haven't given up on it yet.
In the past month or so, I have found some wonderful artists on the web. Here are some links that you can check out.

I am still working on stuff but it is going rather slow. Stay tuned for more updates!
This blog will take my viewers through the art experience as I experience it. Here, I will be posting entries about projects that I am working on, drawing connections between my work and the work of other artists and attempting to establish a place for me express my feelings about different types of art and the actual art process. Followers welcome :)

I finally have my personal website up! I had been going back and forth for a long time about what I wanted to do about a website. I thought about having someone make one for me but that can be costly and it didn't make a lot of sense for me to pay someone to do what I could do for myself. Time was the biggest concern but I have managed to find a quick solution.
Right now, I am working on building up my body of work so that I can buff up my gallery. If you are interested in seeing what I have been working on check it out.

....and in the meantime, here is a video that I posted on youtube of me painting.

2011 a new year
I am excited about the new year. I have been thinking abouy what I want to do differently this year. The first thing I did today was wrote a list of all of the accomplishments that I have made. I have a tendency to see the glass at half empty, rather than half full...as long as it is not full. It is a very toxic way of thinking and I need to stop that. When I sat down and went through each sale and all the hurdles I had to jump over, like finding affordable materials ect I realized that I have accomplished a lot. I have sold a little over 1,000 dollars worth of art/crafts over 6 months. That isnt a phenominal number or anything but its good considering I am a noob and the shitty economy.
It didn't feel like a lot at the time because I couldnt see the big picture. I have done more in the past 6 months than a lot of people have done in years and I am finally acknowledging those small drops of water accumulating in the bottom of my cup.
So what's new for the new year?
I have some social experiments I wanna try. Of course there are new techniqus I would like to conquer but I also want to play around with different things to see how my audience responds to it.
I also would like a new outlet. I recently signed up on fineartamerica and after about 30 days i managed to sale 3 paintings, which is good. I would to find a bridge between me and international customers. No clue really how to make that happen but eventually it will.
I need to start updating this thing more regularly. I think I keep up with it pretty well, compared to the average blogger but even still. Its time to get this ball on the roll.
Happy new year.

ugh
I am not very happy today. After last night, i have come to the realization that whatever it is that i am doing is not working out for me.
What should i be doing? Well, that would be easier to answer if i knew what i was doing wrong.
I am tired.

Rant: about people who rant about artists
Yeah art pisses a lot of people off. Especially those who don't see the value in it. They don't understand how someone would spend "that kind" of money on a piece of art or invest the time into making. Making art isn't something you can put on a schedule. Use it or lose it..You have go when you feel inspired to create and in this case, 4am seemed perfect. When I am successful and out of the goddamn poverty level you might hate art so much....
If art is not your thing, that is fine but I am tired of people telling me
1. it is a waste of time
2. I need to go back to school to get my degree because otherwise, i will amount to nothing
3. That it is not possible to make a living off of selling art
4. bitching about the amount of time that i am investing in..meaning less time to hang out or whatever
5. the mess... Art is messy.
If any of those things are true the only thingi have to say is that i am not going to the that person that dies wondering what would have happened had I pursued my dream. If i try and fail..at least I tried, which is more than most people do.
So STFU!

Check out this painting I wanted to buy from a local artist!
Unfortunately, we couldn't get in contact fast enough and the painting was given away as a gift. :( I love this painting. I think I am partial to the textures. Its kinda dark and Ttim Burton-esque. Love it!
Favorites of mine, also from the same artist..

Fall Festival Commentaries
I had a lot of time to talk to other vendors and customers about their opinions of the festival and the items that vendors were selling. This particular customer spent a lot of time conversing with me and my helpers and offered to say a word or two about my items.

and that positive thing is...
I just booked my first craft show!!!! ^_*
I went to the craft store last night and bought a bunch of goodies! I can't wait to see what I come up with for the fall festival. Looks like I will be taking a break from painting and working on some new crafty things. It felt nice to dig out my sewing machine last night.
This will be my frist show! It means that I am moving in the right direction. I also didn't mention that I talked a friend of mine into selling with me as well at the festival. She really needs an outlet and even though she just had her work displayed in a local gallery there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of every opportunity. I am proud of her <3
I really can't justify all the fees that galleries charge just to display. I am determined to find places that are free until you make a sale or have low costs for displaying work. What good does selling stuff do it you give away all the money that make from the sale. The internet is a wonderful place for that.
Use your resources.
I will be posting pictures soon of some of the things I will be selling at the show.

Mind Over Matter
I am really getting tired of certain people telling me that it is not practical to attempt successful at selling art. Art has been around for years and regardless of how large or small the market is or the decline or increase, It can't be denied that people are buying art somewhere. It gets irritating when people think the only way to make a decent living is to have been a college graduate in a profitable field or better yet, claim that I shouldn't have gone to college for an art Degree because I can't use it. I feel that there are enough people and professions in our society where no one should feel restricted or tied to a particular trade.
There are mainstream jobs and then there are jobs that aren't so mainstream. If there isn't anything out there for you why can't you create something new? My point is, there is no reason why people should be working jobs that they hate. My day job isn't a career move, its just a job. However, it is very necessary to get me through that transition from doing what I have to, to doing what I want to do.
I have abandoned my social life for the past month or so and hit it hard with getting to work. I have listed 5 new paintings and have beend renewing my listings on Etsy a couple times a day. At this point, i have had a total of 652 page views from aug 31,2010 -sept 5, 2010. That sounds pretty good to me. One sale since, t, but I am hoping that things will work out. I feel like I can accomplish my goal. I won't know until I try.
It is sleepy time. Until next time, chew on this:
